This artwork is a series of many Banksy hung up in various art galleries and museums in the UK and in New York. Each of them represents a pre-existing painting that has been altered in a specific way to give off a new message. Some of these works weren't even noticed by the administration until a few weeks later, and some others even adopted them into the permanent collections. However, it brought along quite a few questions about the security and authenticity of the works inside the museums and galleries. If Banksy can place artworks in there, does this mean anyone can take some out, or replace them?
Look at the first picture taken with a phone camera. This shows Banksy in action. What would you have thought, or what would you have done if you'd been there when it happened?
Now look at one of the paintings Banksy placed on the walls in the museum.
- What does it say about the traditional art we normally see in museums?
- What does it say about the place of advertising in the fine arts?
